Measures
The Directorate of Safety and Technical Policy (DSTP) of the Federal
Ministry of Aviation Nigeria has among others the responsibility of:
-
Co-ordination of the formulation and review of technical
policies with particular references to the promotion of Safety
and security of civil aviation in Nigeria, and in accordance
with international practice
-
Co-Ordination and monitoring of the implementation of Aviation
policies by the parastatals, department and agencies of the
ministry of aviation.
-
Conduct and Supervision of the auditing /investigation of the
work programmes and operation of the parastatals to promote
efficiently and effectiveness in the Ministry
-
Co-ordination of research and development programmes of the
parastatals and agencies of the ministry.

Design, construction, maintenance and management of federal
government owned airstrips and other non revenue generating
outfits of aviation ministry.

Updating
the Hon. Minister on the progress in the implementation of
safety programmes
The
Department of Safety and Technical Policy shall be headed by a
Director, who shall be assisted by two Deputy Director, whose
functions shall be as follows:-

DEPUTY DIRECTOR – Safety and Technical matters.
Shall be responsible for Safety, Security and other technical
matters.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR – Meteorology
Shall be responsible for Metrological Services including
Aviation, Marine and Agro-Meteorology.
Each
of these offices (Deputy Directors) is sub-divided into two and
headed by Assistant Director whose functions will be clearly defined
by the director. Highly trained professionals with relevant
backgrounds in the fields of Engineering, Operations, Social
Science, etc shall be deployed or recruited into the Department.
