The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA)

Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET)
The Nigerian College of
Aviation Technology (NCAT)
The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT)
This
the Civil Aviation Training Institution that trains Pilots &
Engineers that serve the Industry. The Nigerian College of Aviation
Technology (NCAT) was established in 1964 by the Federal Government
and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) under a
United Nation’s Development Program (UNDP). NCAT was established
primarily to service the Aviation Industry as its nuclei of
training.
NCAT is located in Zaria and has 4 training schools, namely:

Flying School
-
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering School
-
Aeronautical Telecommunications Engineering School
-
Air Traffic Services/Communications School.
NCAT
is led by a Rector/Chief Executive and supported by 7 Principal
Officers.
Achievements
The achievements recorded from (July 2003 – July 2005) included the
following:-
Provision of the following under listed facilities:
-
Airborne Radio Maintenance Training Equipment and Non –
Destructive Testing Equipment in the Aircraft Maintenance
Engineering School.

Computer based electronic laboratory in the Aeronautical
Telecommunications Engineering School.
-
ALCATEL NAV-AIDS Simulator Training Equipment donated to the
Aeronautical Telecommunications School by the Nigerian Airspace
Management Agency (NAMA).
-
Repair of the Area Airways Simulators in the ATS/Com. School to
ensure that all four (4) training positions are serviceable.
-
The Local Area Networking of the computer classroom in the ATS/Com
School.
-
The networking of the computer laboratory in the ATE School for
training of staff and students on networking and Internet
access.
-
Equipping of ATS/Com. School classrooms, offices, and common
rooms.
-
Provision of computers, multimedia projectors, overhead
projectors and other training aids to various schools and
service departments.
Additionally, a Course Development Unit has been established and
it is being expected to take off fully by the end of year 2005.
The
TRAINAIR service agreement with ICAO has been signed and joining
fees was paid to ICAO during the reporting period. This means that
the College is now a participant in the ICAO Trainair programme
which is meant to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of
training organizations.
It is noteworthy that in the first quarter of year 2004, a detailed
assessment of the whole College to see how to restore its lost
glory, was carried out in - house. The result of this assessment is
the “Report on Revitalization” which in September of the same Year,
received the Federal Executive Council’s approval for the release of
the required sum of N3.6 Billion from the BASA (Bilateral Air
Services Agreement) funds, for its implementation. This approval was
recently ratified by the National Assembly along with the year 2005
budget. The implementation has commenced in earnest and is expected
to be completed in year 2006.
In the last two years, the College has witnessed a boost in its
training activities. It has effectively run seventy two (72)
courses, out of which sixty five (65) were successfully completed,
while the rest are still on-going. The on going courses presently in
the College are:-

Flight Operations Officers Basic Course.
-
Airframe and power plant Diploma Course. (Two courses are
running concurrently)
-
Standard Air Traffic Control Course.
-
Advanced Aeronautical Information Service Course.
-
Aeronautical telecommunications Diploma Course
-
Air Transport Planning, Operations and Management Course.
In
general, all the courses progressed normally and terminated as
scheduled. The total number of students was one thousand, two
hundred and eighteen (1,218), while the number that graduated was
one thousand and one hundred and thirteen (1, 113). The graduates
were from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Central
African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Madagascar, Mauritania,
Congo, Gabon, Togo, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon. The
students were sponsored by the State Governments, Federal
Ministries, Aviation Parastatals, Airlines, private individuals and
EAMAC, Niger Republic.
